Solar energy is set to play a central role in the next phase of U.S. power expansion. Developers have reported plans to add 86 GW of new utility-scale electric generating capacity in 2026, with solar accounting for 43.4 GW, or approximately 51% of the total planned additions. This highlights how photovoltaic technology continues to gain relevance within the country’s evolving energy infrastructure.
The scale of these planned additions also reflects the growing demand for flexible, scalable and increasingly competitive sources of electricity. As utilities, businesses and communities expand their energy strategies, solar continues to move from an alternative technology toward a major component of new U.S. power capacity.
